The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency on Tuesday said a group of three sailors, including two Georgian citizens, had been kidnapped from a ship anchored in territorial waters of Gabon during the previous night.

The Agency cited the Georgian consulate in South Africa with the information, adding the crew remaining onboard the anchored ship were not in danger.

It added it was working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to locate and ensure release of the abducted sailors, while their family members were notified on developments around the incident.

The Agency also asked the public to refrain from releasing information identifying the kidnapped Georgian nationals, citing their safety.
