Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, on Tuesday highlighted the participation of a Georgian parliamentary delegation in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union hosted in Luanda, the capital city of Angola.

Samkharadze noted the Georgian legislative body “traditionally” used this platform to meet with parliamentary delegations of countries where the country does not have a diplomatic representation.

We will have more than 15 meetings with chairs of parliaments of different countries. These are mainly representatives of Latin American, African and Asian countries. Of course, we will talk with them about the [Russian-] occupied territories of Georgia, the situation there and in general about the progress that Georgia has”, Samkharadze said.

“We will try to share our experience with them in terms of various important reforms. We will try to gain their support at the United Nations General Assembly when the matter of Georgia is discussed”, the Parliament official continued.

The Assembly will provide a platform for parliamentarians, partner organisations and experts to share good practice and commit to the overall theme of parliamentary “action for peace, justice and strong institutions”, the organisation said.

The IPU was formed in 1889 and now unites 179 members and 14 associate members for facilitating links between lawmaking bodies.
