The existing “strategic partnership” and the prospects of future cooperation were discussed on Thursday by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Titus Corlățean, the Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Romanian Senate and his accompanying delegation.
The sides also reviewed Georgia’s progress on the path to European Union integration, with Darchiashvili expressing gratitude for Romania’s “strong support” to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, the Foreign Ministry said.
Georgian FM said he believed that Georgia’s efforts in fulfilling the 12 recommendations, outlined by the EU for granting its candidate membership status to the country, would be “evaluated fairly and according to merit” and Georgia would receive the status.
Political and economic cooperation between the two states was also reviewed at the meeting, with the officials highlighting the importance of fully utilising the Black Sea potential, including in the directions of transport, energy and connectivity, as “a common priority” for Georgia and the EU.
The conversation also touched on the security environment in the region and the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
