Parliament Vice Speaker: EU will be “more secure” if Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova join

Archil Talakvadze, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday said the future of the European Union would be “more secure and reliable” if Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova became members of the bloc.
In his remarks at the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform in Prague, Talakvadze stressed the support of “our people and our country” to the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing war.
“Also, we will have the opportunity to vocally call on our partners to take further steps so that Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova become EU member states”, the Parliament official said.
We, as well as many in this room, believe that the future security of the European Union will be more secure, and will be more reliable if we, the three countries, become members of the European Union”, Talakvadze noted.
The Georgian official also said meetings would be held with delegations of Austria, Sweden, Greece and other EU member states on the sidelines of the Summit.
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said the country’s legislative delegation had arrived in Prague, the Czech Republic, to express Tbilisi’s support for Ukraine at the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform on Tuesday.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said Georgia had “proved itself as a reliable partner” for both the European Union and China.
The existing “strategic partnership” and the prospects of future cooperation were discussed on Thursday by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Titus Corlățean, the Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Romanian Senate and his accompanying delegation.
Georgia's integration into the European Union, bilateral ties and deepening sectoral cooperation between Georgia and Bulgaria were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Bulgarian counterpart Mariya Gabriel.
