Thirty-eight countries of the Commission for Europe of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation have supported hosting next year’s World Tourism Day in Georgia, with heads of tourism organisations set to feature at the event, the Georgian National Tourism Organisation said on Tuesday.
The issue was discussed within a meeting of the Executive Council of the UN World Tourism Organisation in Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, Maia Omiadze, the Head of the GNTA and Tamar Koriauli, the First Deputy Head of the GNTA, were present at the event.
The Samarkand meeting also reviewed topics including 2024-2025 plans of the Organisation, creation of UNWTO regional and thematic offices, and sustainable tourism development initiatives.
The World Tourism Day has been hosted annually on September 27 since 1980 to raise awareness on the role of the industry within the international community.
