The existing successful cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations, as well as the country’s productive involvement in the organisation’s initiatives, were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Dennis Francis, the President of the UN General Assembly.
At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UNGA, the Georgian side once again reiterated its commitment to defending the principles and values of the UN Charter, including ensuring peace, prosperity and sustainable development, the Foreign Ministry said.

The national tasks set by Georgia in terms of sustainable development and the dynamics of their implementation were positively assessed at the meeting.
While reviewing the current situation in Georgia's occupied territories, the officials emphasised the importance of the UN’s active involvement in the process of reconciliation and confidence building, with Darchiashvili thanking Francis for supporting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The sides also discussed the importance of keeping the issue of Georgia at “a high level” within the UN and actively supporting the country’s resolution on internally displaced persons at the General Assembly, as well as the role of the Secretary-General’s corresponding report, which ensures the consolidation of the international community regarding the current situation on the ground.
