Givi Mikanadze, the Head of the Georgia-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group in Georgian Parliament on Sunday said the visit of Amir Ohana, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, is “highly significant”, which creates potential to further deepen and expand the relations between two countries.
Mikanadze noted the visit highlighted the “intensive cooperation” between the representatives of the highest political bodies of the two countries, citing Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s visit to Israel in August.
He added various visits to Israel were planned in the coming months, including upcoming visits of Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to the country.
The centuries-old dynamics and partnership between Georgia and Israel, which is based on people-to-people relations, is intensifying more every year, Mikanadze emphasised, noting “unprecedented increase” in the number of tourists from Israel.
Georgian official also highlighted that negotiations on a free trade agreement between two states would begin in 2024, stressing the importance of strategic partnership with “an advanced country” Israel.
