Sighnaghi Museum hosts travelling exhibition - Ningyō: Art and Beauty of Japanese Dolls

The travelling exhibition Ningyō - Art and Beauty of Japanese dolls, representing Japanese cultural tradition, opened on Friday at the Sighnaghi Museum of History and Ethnography in Georgia’s eastern town, the Culture Ministry said.

 

 

The exhibition, held with the support of the National Museum of Georgia, the Japan Foundation and the country’s Embassy in Georgia, showcases 67 selected dolls from Katashiro and Amagatsu, which are considered archetypes of Japanese dolls.

The Sighnaghi Museum has been collaborating with the Japan Foundation and the Embassy for five years and has hosted exhibitions of Japanese artists, along with master classes.

 

 

The Japan Foundation aims to promote and deepen Japan’s cultural ties with the world, holding travelling exhibitions in different areas of art annually in about 80 museums and exhibition venues around the world.

The Japanese exposition will be open for visitors until October 17.
