Strengthening bilateral relations between Georgia and Japan, and deepening cooperation in culture, economy, tourism, agriculture and education were discussed over the past week in meetings between officials of the Government of the western Georgian region of Adjara and Hideki Ishizuka, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to the country.

The Embassy said on Thursday the meetings saw a donation of waste collection hardware and an excavator by the Japanese Government to the Shuakhevi and Khelvachauri municipalities of the Georgian region within a $143,852 grant through the Grassroots Human Security Grant Programme, which supports small-scale initiatives for improving the living standards of local citizens and promoting education and culture.

The Ambassador also visited a $72,000 mobile library purchased by the Japanese Government for communities in mountainous parts of Adjara in 2021, with the goal of boosting access to literature and education for locals.
