Relations between Georgia and Japan in various fields were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, and Hideki Ishizuka, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to the country.

The officials “highly appraised” the existing political relations between the two countries, the Georgian Parliament said.

Their meeting focused on parliamentary relations and the upcoming visit of a Georgian Parliament’s delegation to Japan next month.

The officials also noted more focus would be placed on areas with potential for deepening relations, including opportunities for increasing Japanese investments in Georgia.

Samkharadze also reviewed the “difficult” situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and the threats coming from Russia, with Ishizuka reaffirming his Government’s “strong” support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
