Diplomats accredited in Georgia on Friday sent their condolences to families of the victims killed in a landslide that hit western Georgia’s Shovi resort on Thursday.
The German Ambassador Peter Fischer said “our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved”, also sending the message of support to the injured and those involved in the ongoing rescue operation.

The United States Embassy extended its “deepest” condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in Shovi and said it prayed for those who were missing to be found “soon”.
“At this difficult time, the dedication of the first responders and the Georgian people’s unity and heartfelt support in the face of this tragedy is inspiring”, the Embassy said.
The Israeli Ambassador Hadas Meitzad highlighted her “utmost” respect to the “brave” rescue teams working in the disaster area.
“With heavy hearts, we are closely following the devastating natural disaster in Racha [region], our thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones and those who went through this traumatic event”, the Israeli Ambassador said.
The United Nations Development Programme in Georgia in a social media message said it was “saddened” by the tragic events.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives. Hoping for the swift and safe rescue of everyone still in the disaster zone”, the statement said.

The European Union Delegation expressed “heartfelt” condolences to family and friends of those who “tragically” lost their lives due to the “devastating” landslide.
“We closely follow ongoing rescue and evacuation operations & hope that those missing & stranded in a disaster area safely return home”, the statement noted.

The Norwegian Ambassador Marko Soldic called the development “terrible” news.
“Our hearts are with those who have lost someone they love, and with those who have survived and are recovering. Hoping for swift rescue of those who remain in the affected area. Deep respect for rescuers, who keep working on in very hard conditions”, he tweeted.

The Swedish Embassy expressed its solidarity in this “hour of grief” and “heartfelt” condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the tragedy.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday said his Government had decided to declare Monday as a day of mourning following a landslide, killing at least 11 people.
