Foreign dignitaries have sent their condolences to Georgia after a landslide disaster hit western Georgia’s Shovi resort on Thursday, killing at least 18.
Oliver Varhelyi, the European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, sent his “sincerest condolences” to families and friends who lost their loved ones during the tragic landslide.

The United Nations in Georgia expressed “profound sorrow” over the lives lost due to the tragic landslide and praised the heroism of the first responders, rescuers, and police “who continue to work tirelessly on the ground to ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected”.
Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, expressed his condolences to his Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili, "At this difficult moment, we share the deep sorrow of the brotherly Georgian nation", he added.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent his deepest condolences to Garibashvili, saying he was extremely saddened by the report of the disaster in Shovi. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also pledged to provide all the necessary assistance to Georgia in rescue measures in his telephone conversation with Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili.
Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian FM, expressed his sympathy to his Georgian colleague over the phone and offered Hungarian disaster relief assistance, if necessary.
The Council of Europe Office in Georgia extended its condolences to the family and friends of those tragically deceased. “We hope each person who remains missing will be able to come home safely”.
The Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States also offered its condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in this tragic incident in Georgia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said he deeply sympathised with the Georgian community, sending his condolences to the families of the deceased.

Pope Francis expressed his condolences to Ilia II, the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia's Orthodox Church and called on public to pray for those affected by the disaster.
The Foreign Ministries of Serbia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Albania, Slovakia and the North Macedonia, as well as Bulgaria, Latvia, Romania, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan extended their deepest condolences to the people of Georgia, wishing a speedy recovery to those injured and safe recovery of missing individuals during ongoing search and rescue efforts.
Representatives of embassies of Turkey, France, United Kingdom and Austria, as well as Japan and Iran in Georgia, extended their profound condolences to the families and friends of those who had tragically lost their lives as a result of the landslide in Shovi and sent their thoughts and prayers to the missing persons.
