Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze on Wednesday praised the “active efforts” of the Ministry’s Cyber Security Bureau in “strengthening national cyber resilience” and ensuring its “proper” protection in the country, in his address at the Georgia Cybersecurity Forum in Tbilisi.

Burchuladze hailed the ongoing and planned reforms in the Ministry in this direction and emphasised the importance of cooperation at the national and international level to ensure cyber security, the Defence Ministry said.

He noted that due to the complexity of cyberspace, “close communication” with strategic partners - NATO and the European Union was one of the “main components” of achieving success in this direction, emphasising Georgia was “actively involved” in cyber training and various events planned by partner countries and organisations.

The positive result of the departmental cooperation is the raising of the cyber defence package of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package to the national level and acquiring more legitimacy for this format of cooperation”, he added.

In his speech, Burchuladze also noted the work on the establishment and staffing of the Cyber Command and the designing of a new building of the Cyber Security Bureau were actively underway.
