Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday highlighted the Government’s “significant” results in developing the domestic cybersecurity field, in comments at the Georgia Cybersecurity Forum.

Garibashvili noted the country had an “appropriate” legal framework and a national strategy for the field, the implementation of which involved Government agencies and their international partners.

The Government head also said the educational and research direction in cybersecurity was also developing in the country, to ensure it could keep pace with changes in advanced technology.

I would also like to point out that we are successfully cooperating with our strategic partners - the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as other partners - the European Union and NATO member states, in the direction of strengthening the country's cybersecurity capabilities”, he noted.

Garibashvili stressed cybersecurity was “one of the main challenges of the 21st century”, adding it was of “critical” importance for the functioning of state institutions and domestic economy.

The importance of cybersecurity will increase even more in the coming years. We all know very well that this is already one of the main challenges of the 21st century, and of course, even more effort and attention will increase from our side. It is important that there are different formats of discussion on this issue”, he noted.

“Cybersecurity is one of the main directions of the national security sector of Georgia, and the Government is taking important steps in this direction both in under unified Government efforts and cooperation with international partners”, Garibashvili concluded.
