Georgian Prime MInister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said ensuring care for children was among his Government’s “top priorities”, in comments on International Day for Protection of Children.
Garibashvili extended his message for “peace, health, prosperity and progress to every child in our country” on the date, and said ensuring equal access to healthcare and education for all children was “vitally important”.
The PM noted “numerous steps” had been taken by the Government “year after year” that served the purpose of fulfilling the objective.
He also announced an increase in state support package for socially underprivileged children, adding about 232,000 children would now receive a monthly support package of ₾200 (about $76), with the Government spending ₾465 million (about $178 mln) from the budget for the purpose.
Georgian brands producing toys are featured at the ongoing Spielwarenmesse Fair in Germany, while companies from the country that make children’s clothing are among exhibitors at Playtime Paris in the French capital.
Tamar Gabunia, the Georgian Deputy Health Minister, on Tuesday told the World Health Assembly in Geneva her Government was working to improve maternal, newborn and child health services across the country.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said the Government had allocated ₾465 million ($185.65mln) to raise monthly assistance to socially vulnerable children to ₾200 ($79.85) this year.
The Georgian Government will finance treatment for 300 children cancer patients in the country in the “best clinics” around the world in a ₾30 million ($12mln) annual programme, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on Monday.
Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze on Thursday hosted children of servicemembers killed in conflicts for the country’s territorial integrity, international peacekeeping missions and in other official duties, in a move marking International Children’s Day.
The fruitful cooperation was reviewed on Tuesday in a meeting between Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Jesper Moller, UNICEF's Representative in Georgia.
