Tamar Gabunia, the Georgian Deputy Health Minister, on Tuesday told the World Health Assembly in Geneva her Government was working to improve maternal, newborn and child health services across the country.

Gabunia introduced delegates of the event to the Georgian authorities’ strategy for boosting healthcare for women, children and adolescents.

She emphasised the Government was working to enhance antenatal, perinatal and postpartum care.

The Deputy Health Minister also said the universal healthcare programme list of antenatal care was continuously growing based on current research and industry’s best practices, noting new methods of service delivery - including telemedicine - had been introduced to ensure regular antenatal care.

Gabunia and Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili are involved in the Assembly running in Geneva between May 21-30.
