PM: Gov’t to use $​​185m to raise monthly assistance for 223,000 children

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said the Government had allocated ₾465 million ($​​185.65mln) to raise monthly assistance to socially vulnerable children to ₾200 ($79.85) this year.

The initiative involves 223,000 children beneficiaries, with the support package to be raised from the current ₾150 ($59.89) starting July 1.

He said his Government had financed 11 million medical cases for more than three million beneficiaries since coming to power in 2012, contrasting the former Government’s budget of ₾145 million ($57.89mln) to ₾7 billion ($2.79bln) spent over the past decade in the direction.

“Too many were unable to receive treatment and undergo emergency surgery. Many ended with lethal results. This was the situation [before 2012]”, he said in comments, before also mentioning recent launches of Government-initiated infrastructure projects for children’s needs.
