The fruitful cooperation was reviewed on Tuesday in a meeting between Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Jesper Moller, UNICEF's Representative in Georgia.
The parties also discussed prospects and priorities of future cooperation, with Papuashvili expressing his gratitude for the important activities carried out by UNICEF in Georgia, including in the country’s occupied region of Abkhazia, the Parliament press office said.
Moller highlighted the Code on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the Georgian Parliament in 2019, and said it set high standards of children’s rights, which was “critically” important for minors.
At the meeting, the sides also pointed out the great role of the Parliament in the process of supervising the Code implementation. At the same time, the Parliament Speaker emphasised the importance of UNICEF’s “active cooperation” with the Permanent Parliamentary Council for the Protection of the Rights of the Child.
