Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday said a “strong” police force defending the “interests of the country” and its citizens was a “necessary condition” for the “strength and progress of our state”.

In his speech at an event dedicated to the Police Day, Garibashvili noted the Georgian law enforcement was “modern and highly professional”, and conformed to European standards.

I am proud of the Georgian police. Today, when our country, our citizens and the Government are strengthening our state together, striving to create a modern, European state, we can safely say that we already have a truly modern and, most importantly, highly professional police force of European standards”, Garibashvili said.

The Government head noted the outcome was the result of “large-scale” reforms and the “efficient” work of the Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and his team.

Of course, this is the result of the tireless, dedicated work of each of you. You have achieved what many in the not-so-distant past thought was unthinkable. You have gained people's complete trust, special respect and love. Therefore, I congratulate our people on this day together with you”, he continued.

“By being loyal to the law, public and country, working 24 hours a day, often at the cost of your own life, caring for the lives of others, you are delivering an invaluable service for the safety of our citizens and the well-being of our homeland”, Garibashvili told police professionals.
