Georges Mikautadze, a Georgian striker playing for the French club FC Metz, was on Sunday crowned Player of the Season in the Ligue 2 national championship.
In his acceptance comment, the forward credited his teammates with the achievement.
“It’s all thanks to my teammates. I would also like to thank FC Metz, the staff and the coach who trusted me”, he said.
I would also like to thank all the players who voted for me, and also my family, quite simply. My father, my mother, my brother and my sister. We have faced more complicated times. This trophy is for them”, the 22-year-old said during the awards ceremony.

Mikautadze has scored 23 goals in the league, keeping alive his team’s chances of promotion to Ligue 1, the top flight of French domestic football.
