Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Wednesday highlighted the emerging, “comprehensive” cooperation agenda with Saudi Arabia - the “leading economy” in the Persian Gulf and emphasised the importance of developing trade relations with this “largest country with a population of 40 million”.

Davitashvili said the Georgian side had already started discussions with the Saudi Economy Ministry on signing a free trade agreement, which would be further reviewed with other Persian Gulf countries.

He announced it was planned to create joint working groups and commissions that would identify investment projects both in the direction of energy and in terms of real estate and infrastructural development with the country, the Economy Ministry said.

The importance of investment cooperation with Saudi Arabia, which has “one of the richest economies”, was also highlighted by Davitashvili, stressing the country “has a broad interest in Georgia”. “The recent progress of Georgia is impressive for the Government of Saudi Arabia and consequently, we discussed the directions of cooperation in various fields”, he added.
