Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Tuesday announced an important agreement would be signed between Georgia and Qatar, promoting innovation and technology cooperation between the countries.

Davitashvili noted that on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum, running between Tuesday and Thursday in Doha, the Georgian delegation had held meetings with several sectoral ministries, where economic cooperation between Georgia and Qatar had been outlined, the Economy Ministry said.

Transport and logistics, as well as Georgia’s important role in the Middle Corridor, were also emphasised at the meetings, the Economy Minister said, highlighting the increased interest in the country from “many states of the world, including Qatari investors”, amid the existing geopolitical challenges.

He also said the conversations touched on trade and economic issues, including the agreements on Mutual Support and Protection of Investments and on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation, signed last year between Georgia and Qatar.

All this creates a very important prerequisite for us [Georgia] to be able to attract additional foreign direct investments from Qatar to Georgia and be significantly encouraging for the country’s economic growth", Davitashvili stressed.
