Close, “friendly” relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan were “positively” assessed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and his counterpart Sahiba Gafarova.

At the meeting, held as part of Papuashvili's official visit to Azerbaijan, the discussion touched on the importance of strengthening ties between sectoral committees and friendship groups at the parliamentary level, with the parliament speakers agreeing to further enhance the existing cooperation.

The current situation in the South Caucasus region, as well as trilateral cooperation between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey, was also reviewed by the sides, the Georgian Parliament press office said.
Papuashvili stressed it was an “honour” for him to feature, earlier today, in a special session of the Azerbaijani Parliament, dedicated to the 100th birthday of the late third President of the country.
