Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday said Georgia would “definitely” become a member of the European family with its “centuries-old” unique culture, traditions, Christian identity, and values.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the Europe Day event, Kaladze noted that with the “specific steps” taken by the Government and Georgian citizens' willingness, the country’s European perspective, already recognised by the EU, had to be followed by a “well-deserved” candidate status and membership.
It is very important to grant the [membership candidate] status, [...] so that the Georgian people won't be disappointed and won’t feel oppressed”, he added.
Kaladze stressed that Georgian people and the ruling Georgian Dream Government wished to be a “full-fledged” member of the EU, based on the principles of the country's national identity and sovereignty.
