Georgian-German relations, priority areas of cooperation and ways of further developing them were discussed on Thursday by the Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and members of a delegation of the European Union Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag.

The meeting also highlighted Germany's assistance to Georgia in its efforts to join the EU, noting the “structural and systemic” reforms - including harmonisation of legislative foundations of economic institutions - carried out following the country’s application for EU membership in March 2022.

Georgia’s interest to expand exports to the EU market was also highlighted, with the sides stressing the statistics showing the 71 percent increase in the number of companies that exported to the EU in 2022, as well as the number of products exported from Georgia rising by 20 percent higher compared to the previous year.

The officials also pointed out the Black Sea submarine cable project, a new transmission infrastructure to connect the South Caucasus energy grid to Europe, and noted its significance in allowing export of electricity to the EU market following its completion.
