Givi Mikanadze, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, was on Tuesday elected the Chair of the Sub-Committee on the Implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights of the Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Elected by a majority of votes, Mikanadze will lead the Sub-Committee after becoming its member this year, and following his time in the Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee since 2021.

The latter chose Mikanadze as its Rapporteur on the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on prisoners in European prisons in 2021.

A draft resolution on the topic was subsequently adopted by the Standing Committee of the Council of Europe with a majority of votes.
