Georgia’s National Food Agency has been “actively” inspecting the consumer market, urging consumers to be alert and observant while purchasing “high-risk” food, especially during the upcoming Easter holidays with particularly increased demand for food.

Vasil Kvernadze, the Head of the Food Safety Department of the Agency, called on the consumers to pay attention to the food storage conditions, including proper storage temperature.

The inspection teams of the Agency have been controlling wholesale, large and small trade facilities throughout the country, especially inspecting meat and egg markets, as well as bakeries, checking the labelling, food storage, production process and sanitary-hygienic conditions.

In 2023 the body carried out 522 inspections and detected 85 violations, including two cases of violation in egg production.
