Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, reviewed projects supported by the bloc in the country’s western Imereti region during his first visit to the locality, the EU representation in Georgia said on Wednesday.
During his visit between Monday and Wednesday, the diplomat met with regional Governor Zviad Shalamberidze, with the officials visiting the Colchis Fountain in the city of Kutaisi - renovated using EU funds.

Ambassador Herczynski kicked off his first visit to Imereti by visiting the newly renovated Colchis Fountain together with Governor @shalamberidze_z.

They were then hosted in the first green waste composting centre in the regional capital, with the facility established by local authorities through the EU’s financial support.

Herczynski also visited Herbia, a herbs and vegetables production company in the region that received support from the EU to expand production and introduce international standards in its operations with the objective of creating new opportunities for locals, the diplomatic office noted.

At Kutaisi State University, the Ambassador met students and answered their questions about EU-Georgia relations, before travelling to Tskaltubo municipality to discuss its development and rural initiatives with members of the Local Action Group established with EU support.
The EU transferred more than ₾65 million ($25mln) to the region between 2021-2022 to develop 71 municipal projects in regional development, economic empowerment, environmental protection, education, skills development and other areas.
