Economy Minister highlights growing trade turnover between Georgia, Uzbekistan in meeting with Uzbek Deputy PM

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Saturday highlighted the growing dynamics of trade turnover between Georgia and Uzbekistan in the post-pandemic period, in a meeting with Jamshid Khodjaev, the Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister.

Davitashvili said the trade turnover between the countries had increased by 40 percent in 2022, with exports increasing to 30 percent, and emphasised the importance of promoting the two countries’ products on each other’s markets and removing “all obstacles negatively affecting the growth of trade”, in order to maintain the growing dynamic.

At the bilateral meeting, the parties also discussed issues of economic cooperation in various directions, including tourism, noting that the total number of visitors from Uzbekistan to Georgia had increased by 32 percent in 2022, the Economy Ministry said.

The conversation touched on the Black Sea submarine electricity cable, with the officials discussing attractive sectors for investment and all necessary steps to take the partnership of the two countries to an “even higher level”.

Davitashvili highlighted Uzbekistan as an “important partner and a friendly state”, and noted the importance of strengthening the “pace of development of cooperation” with the country. He expressed hope that the Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation would have a great impact on the deepening of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier, the Georgian Minister, along with the country’s delegation and Uzbek Deputy PM, participated in the 9th session of the Intergovernmental Commission.
