Deputy economy minister: Uzbekistan's cargo “almost doubles” in transport corridor of Georgia

The cargo of Uzbekistan has “almost” doubled in the transport corridor of Georgia, the Georgian deputy economy minister Guram Guramishvili said on Thursday at a meeting with the delegation of Uzbekistan, which included heads of public and private organisations of the transport-logistics sector.
Guramishvili said Uzbekistan has been interested in “more active” use of the Georgian transport corridor and noted he had informed the Uzbek partners about transit tariffs and port fees in the corridor, while also introducing the country’s transport and logistics infrastructure, and discussing future projects. He expressed his gratitude that Uzbekistan has chosen the Georgian transport corridor for its cargo services.

The delegation of Uzbekistan is in Georgia to inspect the local transport and logistics infrastructure and to determine future cooperation, the economy ministry said, noting that the delegation would visit the Poti and Batumi seaports in Georgia’s Black Sea region, as well as the free industrial zone of Poti, to get acquainted with its activities.

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Saturday said cargo turnover, by the country's transport sectors, including road and railway, as well as civil aviation, had increased by 16.6 percent in the first quarter of 2022 and had amounted to 12.8 million tons, this “clearly indicating” that the interest of international carriers towards the transport corridor of Georgia has been growing.
