Georgia’s foreign office on Wednesday said the meeting had also reviewed democratic reforms carried out by the country's authorities over the years and reforms backed by the Georgian Parliament to facilitate the country’s European integration.
Darchiashvili also briefed the EU official on his Government's plans to ensure the country’s sectoral integration with the bloc.
For his part, McAllister pledged the EP’s “continuous support” for Georgia’s European aspirations, the Foreign Ministry press office noted.
Darchiashvili’s visit to Brussels comes ahead of the European Commission’s interim report on Georgia’s alignment with the EU framework in the coming months, following the country’s formal application for the bloc’s membership in March 2022.
The Commission is scheduled to issue recommendations to the European Council in October whether to grant Georgia the bloc’s membership candidate status.
