Georgian tourism and destination agency professionals on Tuesday met a leading expert of the Mountain Rescue Service of Bavaria to hear about the practices and experience of rescuers in the German state.

The Georgian National Tourism Administration said Stefan Blochum shared experience with standards used for mountain rescue operations in the German Alps in the meeting organised to contribute to ensuring safety at Georgia’s visitor destinations.

Nika Erkomaishvili, the President of the Mountain Guide Association, said in comments on the meeting that establishing the profession of mountain rescuers would be “of great importance” for realising Georgia’s adventure tourism potential.

Organised by the Association and financed by the German Society for International Cooperation, the discussion involved Georgia’s Resort Development Agency, the Mountain Trails Agency, the Ski Track Rescue Service, the Rescue Service of the Interior Ministry and the Agency for Professional Skills.
