Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday congratulated domestic media on Georgian Journalism Day by saying their work was “key” to the democratic development of the country and the construction of its “European future”.

In his message over the date, Garibashvili noted journalists were making a “special contribution” to the development of “political and public culture” and establishment of democratic values.

Your activity, based on social responsibility and high standards of professional ethics, is key to the democratic development of our country and the construction of its European future”, Garibashvili said.

“Our Government and political team are well-aware of the great national importance of your profession. The proof of this is the reforms carried out by the [ruling] Georgian Dream [party], as a result of which the pluralism of the media has substantially improved and the degree of freedom has increased”, he noted.
