PM highlights Gov’t “obligation” to create equal environment on World Down Syndrome Day

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday marked World Down Syndrome Day by acknowledging the Government’s “obligation” to “create an equal environment where each member of the public will be able to realise their potential”.

Garibashvili said the date signified the world’s recognition of the right “to live and develop in an equal and dignified environment”.

The Georgian Government once again emphasises the state's constitutional obligation to create special conditions for realising the rights and interests of persons with disabilities. The Government takes care to create an equal environment where each member of the public will be able to realise their potential”, he said.

The head of the Government stressed it was the “duty of the state” to take care of the rights, health and development of people with Down syndrome.

The Government will always support, encourage and lead initiatives aimed at the physical and intellectual development of people with Down syndrome”, he concluded.
