1 mln GEL programme to help infertile patients in Adjara region

A 1 million GEL (about €288,329/$320,320) programme will be launched in Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara to provide assistance to infertile individuals living in the region, Tornike Rizhvadze, the Head of the local Government, announced on Tuesday.
Rizhvadze said individuals in need of reproductive medical care would become beneficiaries of the state programme, with infertility diagnosis and treatment to be funded.
The Head of the Adjara Government also noted infertility programme funding would be increased “as needed” in the coming years.

A 45-year-old Iamze Diasamidze gave birth to her 13th child yesterday in the country’s western Batumi city of Georgia.
The Georgian government released its National Maternal and Newborn Health Strategy for 2017-2030. This strategy aims to eliminate preventable deaths of mothers and newborns as well as stillbirths by 2030.
Global leading medical magazine the Lancet has published data showing that newborn deaths have reduced in Georgia. The magazine said that neonatal deaths have decreased significantly in the country in the last 20 years.
Patients in western Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara will benefit from an increased funding for heart and bone marrow transplantation, with treatment of malignant tumour to be also “fully covered” within a new healthcare programme in the locality.
Georgian Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili on Friday said the existence of alternative institutions providing essential services for children with oncological diseases was “of vital importance”, adding that working in this direction has already started.
