Schools to resume on January 17, hybrid classes allowed

The Ministry of Education of Georgia has announced today that schools and kindergartens will resume on January 17. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ministry will allow hybrid classes in the new semester.
Students preferring to study remotely must register at this address: https://online.emis.ge/.
It will be possible to fill out or cancel applications for hybrid classes every Thursday between 12 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The Education Ministry will impose local restrictions only on those schools which have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

“In-person studies should become mandatory in schools despite the coronavirus pandemic, as the hybrid teaching model is ineffective”, said the Georgian Association of School Administrations (GASA).
In total 55 kindergartens out of total 189 have closed temporarily in the Georgian capital city Tbilisi due to confirmed Covid-19 cases, announces the Kindergarten Management Agency of Tbilisi. All closed kindergartens will resume operations once the quarantine period of 12 days expires.
UNICEF Georgia welcomes the Georgian government’s plan to gradually open schools in the cities and the villages of Georgia. An official statement of the organisation reads that safe re-opening of schools and preschools must be prioritised during lifting the restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The Georgian Ministry of Education will allow the parents of school students to choose between in-person and online studies starting February 1.

Only a single public school remains on remote learning mode as confirmed Covid-19 rates have "significantly decreased", the Georgian Education Ministry said on Saturday.
