Approximately 2,000 Georgian citizens evacuated from Ukraine during the war have already returned home with the government’s assistance, said the Georgian Foreign Ministry on Sunday.

The Ministry noted the Georgian diplomatic mission continued working in an emergency regime in the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Odessa and Lviv to help out the citizens of Georgia amid the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

Russia began its military assault on Ukraine on February 24, following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21.
