Economy Minister announces launch of council for economy’s digital transformation, IT development

A digital transformation council will be established in Georgia, with the involvement of both the Government and private sector, in order to “fully transform” the economy and develop the field of information technology (IT), Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Economy Minister, announced on Friday.

During a meeting with IT companies, Davitashvili said the initiative would contribute to the development of the country's economy, employment opportunities and a “mobilisation of additional income”, calling the development of digital technologies “the most promising direction” for Georgia.

In the meeting, the Economy Ministry also presented its views regarding the field of IT in Georgia, the measures the state body had already taken in the direction, as well as future plans in the sector.

The ministry and the private sector also agreed to create a “permanent, effective communication platform” for the business to be able to share its initiatives with the Government, while participants of the meeting also discussed promoting the export of technological products created in the country, and training of professional staff in the field.
