Gov’t to hand state-owned real estate to 16 individuals, 19 families for symbolic price

The Georgian Government will hand state-owned real estate to 16 individuals and 19 families for the symbolic price of ₾1 ($0.35), the Government Administration said on Monday following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Administration said the individuals and families in question held no legal documentation proving the ownership, but would now be able to acquire the estate in the form of direct sale for the symbolic price.
A socially vulnerable family of seven will also receive a non-agricultural plot of land with buildings on it for a symbolic price, the Administration said, adding the family had lived in the property “for years”.
In the most recent round of handing state-owned real estate to citizens, 98 individuals received property for a symbolic price in March 2021.
State-owned real estate will be handed to 98 individuals for the symbolic price of 1 GEL, in addition to registration of their ownership and repayment of loan interests from the state, the Government announced on Monday.
A digital transformation council will be established in Georgia, with the involvement of both the Government and private sector, in order to “fully transform” the economy and develop the field of information technology (IT), Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Economy Minister, announced on Friday.
A total of 189 internally displaced (IDP) families living in state-owned buildings have registered the plots of land they inhabit at a symbolic price, the Georgian government reports. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on August 30 the Georgian government’s initiative to ‘hand over and legalise real estate for about 300 IDP families at a symbolic price of one GEL.’

The nationwide systemic land registration will be fully completed by the end of 2024, making Georgia one of the countries where land ownership issues are “completely resolved”, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze said on Friday at the Parliament.
