The Georgian capital of Tbilisi is scheduled to host the first post-pandemic regional digital summit on September 14, with the event set to promote digital cooperation and bring together delegates from European, Central Asian, South Caucasus states and China, Guram Guramishvili, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, said on Tuesday.

Stressing the importance of the summit in developing interregional digital and telecommunication ties, Guramishvili said it was expected to end with “concrete outcomes”.

The digital summit is of a regional scale, and we have invited representatives of the leading telecom operators and profiled public agencies from a number of countries. We believe that the Tbilisi platform will be a good opportunity to periodically meet and discuss digital topics and prospects for cooperation in the field”, Guramishvili said.

In further comments, the Georgian official said the event would be an opportunity to bring interested parties from the South Caucasus and neighbouring states together “to outline the development potential of international digital connection corridors between Europe and Asia, and to discuss and identify opportunities and challenges for the development of a stronger international digital connection in the South Caucasus region”.

Focusing on additional benefits, Guramishvili said the event would promote Georgia’s role as a country supporting the development of digital corridors and encourage the attraction of new investments.

The event will be organised by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development m of Georgia, the country’s Communications Commission and the World Bank.
