Long-term plans for the development of Georgian Defence Forces (GDF), strengthening their capabilities, issues of cybersecurity and NATO cooperation were some of the topics discussed by Minister Juansher Burchuladze and the Parliamentary Confidence Group earlier today.

Irakli Beraia, the Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Security, said on Thursday the meeting had focused on increasing GDF combat readiness and its compatibility with NATO standards, with the discussion concerning both long- and medium-term development plans.

Steps aimed at developing anti-tank, anti-aircraft and artillery capabilities, as well as cybersecurity, logistics and intelligence were also reviewed, Beraia said, adding the closed section of the meeting had involved an “interesting discussion” on the Defence Minister’s report.

Burchuladze attended the sitting of the Parliamentary Confidence Group earlier today, where he informed MPs about the undisclosed state procurements implemented and planned at the Ministry of Defence.
