Georgian defence minister, NATO official discuss military cooperation between alliance, Georgia

Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze met with Head of NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer on Wednesday and discussed the military cooperation between Georgia and the alliance. 

During the meeting, Burchuladze stressed the importance of NATO’s consistency in terms of its open-door policy amid the Russian military aggression in the region.

Burchuladze also talked about the transformation process of the Georgian defence system, emphasising the “active cooperation” with NATO and strategic partners for strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and “building NATO-compatible defence force,” the Georgian defence ministry said. 

Georgia's participation in the Black Sea strategic discussions and its "significant contribution" to international missions were also on the agenda of the meeting. 

Burchuladze and Bauer discussed the upcoming 2022 NATO-Georgia Exercise which will take place in Georgia in March with the involvement of over 20 member and partner countries.

Georgia’s defence minister and his Ukrainian colleague Oleksii Reznikov are set to meet NATO counterparts today, during sessions involving the alliance’s ministers of defence in Brussels.
