Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday signed a decree opening the call for the position of the Chief of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, a newly created office the Government has initiated as part of efforts to fulfil the European Union’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status.
The Government Administration said the decree set out inclusion of representatives of the Government, the Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Public Defender in the selection commission for the candidate for the position.
The candidates for the commission must be submitted to the Prime Minister within one week following the announcement of the competition.
The announcement also said further information about the terms, deadline and rules for receiving submissions for the position would be published on the Government website within a week after the first meeting of the selection commission.
The ruling Georgian Dream party announced the creation of the Bureau in October, with the agency expected to promote combating corruption, supervise the implementation of the Government's general policy and national strategy against the crime, as well as coordinate activities of relevant bodies, organisations and officials.
