Georgian citizen illegally detained by occupation forces released

Manuchar Gulitashvili, a Georgian citizen illegally detained by occupation forces near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region earlier this week has been released, the State Security Service of Georgia said on Wednesday.

The agency confirmed Gulitashvili was on the Government-controlled territory, following his detention by forces of the de facto authorities near the central Sachkhere municipality’s village of Perevi.

The incident was followed by the Service activating the hotline mechanism used for information exchange on developments along the occupation line, for the purpose of securing his release. The information on the incident was also provided to the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and International partners.

The Service also said the Government continued to “work actively” for securing release of other Georgian citizens illegally detained by occupation forces.
