The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic on Saturday adopted a resolution “fully” supporting the European perspective of Georgia and the activities of the European Union and Slovakia, both at the diplomatic and political levels, which would promote the accomplishment of this perspective, the Georgian Parliament press office said.

The Committee noted it had been aware of the importance of showing “clear support” for Georgia and recognised the country’s desire to join the EU and NATO, adding that Slovakia had “not only experience” but also “long-term expertise” in this regard.

It was noted in the resolution that the enlargement of the EU has been named as one of the “key priorities” of Slovak foreign and European policy since Slovakia joined the EU in 2004. A “new challenge” has been the future membership of Ukraine and in this context, the membership of Slovakia's “long-term” partner countries too, including Georgia, that have expressed interest in EU membership was also significant.
