USAID to help increase Georgia's clean energy production capacity

The United States Agency for International Development and Georgian Renewable Power Company have teamed up to develop a solar power project at the Qartli wind farm to increase Georgia's clean energy production capacity during periods of low wind speed in the central municipality of Gori, the USAID announced on Friday.
The project aims to bring additional five megawatts of solar capacity to the 21 MW wind farm.
The deal was signed as part of an agreement on cooperation earlier today, under which the USAID also takes responsibility to provide technical and advisory assistance to the company.
In addition, both parties will jointly facilitate the development of potential projects that contribute to renewable energy investment in Georgia through increased private sector engagement.
Renewable and clean energy is key to strengthening Georgia’s energy security, sustainable economic development, and addressing climate change", Marika Olson, economic growth office director at USAID, said.
Olson also said renewables helped "ensure a more stable and affordable supply of electricity for Georgia’s homes, businesses, hospitals, and schools, and it helps Georgia further integrate with its European neighbours”.
