The “friendly and productive” ties between Georgia and Germany were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Bärbel Bas, president of the German Bundestag.
Papuashvili extended his gratitude to Germany for supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia and the institutional and socio-economic development of the country, the parliament press office said.
He underlined that backed by Germany, the country had “sustainable” institutions and took the “intact path” to European Union and NATO membership.
The officials reviewed parliamentary cooperation and expressed their commitment to enacting ties between friendship groups and sectoral committees of the lawmaking bodies.
Papuashvili also provided detailed information on the EU integration progress of Georgia, including the ongoing reforms for fulfilment of EU recommendations, and noted the “new geopolitical context” had intensified the role of Georgia as a transit and logistic hub.
On her part, Bas gave a “positive assessment” to the EU integration efforts of Georgia, noting Germany was supporting granting the country the EU membership candidate status.
Led by Papuashvili, the parliamentary delegation of Georgia is on a visit to Germany and holding bilateral meetings with high officials in Berlin.
