Anri Okhanashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, on Friday said Germany was supporting the development of democracy in Georgia and the country’s integration into the European Union.

In his remarks over the visit of the Georgian Parliamentary delegation to Germany, Okhanashvili noted Georgia enjoyed a “multi-party” political support of the German Bundestag.

Bundestag supports the development of democracy in Georgia, the full integration of Georgia into the European Union, which is a very important message for our people, for the country. Therefore, of course, we are grateful when we can hope for and expect such multi-party support. These are not mere words - this must be expressed and will be expressed in different types of decisions”, the Parliament official said.

Okhanashvili stressed German politicians were “well-aware" of the steps taken by the Georgian Government in development of political parties and democracy.

They appreciate the contribution that Georgia makes in the context of common European values”, he concluded.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, on Thursday noted German support for granting the European Union membership candidate status to Georgia.

Samkharadze noted “all” of his German counterparts had come out in favour of Georgia receiving the candidate status in June, when the European Council instead granted the European perspective to the country.
