Hans Wallmark, a member of the Swedish parliament Riksdag on Saturday said he had expectations of “positive signals and changes” in Georgia after the European Commission would evaluate the implemented EU conditions, as the country has been a member of the European family.
After the meeting of Georgian and Swedish parliamentary delegations in Madrid within the framework of the NATO parliamentary assembly, Wallmark noted that “many aspects” of the European agenda were focused on the war in Ukraine and its support, but stressed the importance to see Russian attacks on other countries too, “especially” on Georgia, as the country’s 20 percent has been occupied by Russia since the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
Sweden is now preparing for accession. This also shows that NATO's open door policy is in force, which is very important especially for a country like Georgia. From January 1 of the next year, Sweden will become the EU president after the Czech Republic. Our presidency will focus on security”, Wallmark noted.
The Swedish MP emphasised Sweden had been supporting Georgia “every day” and said it had “high expectations” for Georgia’s EU integration.
