Police officers have arrested one individual for stabbing a young woman to death in Tbilisi, the Georgian interior ministry announced on Friday.
The victim died at the scene as a result of multiple injuries, with the offender arrested shortly after the assault, the state body added.
The man has been charged with premeditated murder, which is punishable by seven to 15 years in prison.
Residents of Georgia’s western cities of Kutaisi and Zugdidi and students of the Kutaisi-based Akaki Tsereteli State University met officials from the prosecutor general’s office on Monday to discuss measures being taken by authorities against femicide and importance of public participation in the effort.
Georgian law enforcers have arrested one individual for stabbing a foreign transgender woman in a massage parlor in central Tbilisi late on October 31.
Police have detained three individuals in the case of the premeditated murder of 27-year-old Russian citizen Anastasia Shatalova which took place in Tbilisi on October 18. Police say one of the detainees, identified only as B.L., shot Shatalova several times resulting in the woman’s death on the spot.
Georgian law enforcers have arrested a 33-year-old man for the murder of Australian citizen Shanae Brooke Edwards in Tbilisi at the end of July. The Georgian Interior Ministry has stated that the Georgian citizen living in Tbilisi, identified only as R.M., was arrested yesterday. DNA samples taken from the murder scene and R.M. point to his involvement.
